WE’VE had pink Panthers jerseys, pink Kookaburra cricket balls and pink Ford Falcons.
But thanks to V8 Supercars, Australian sport is now on the verge of taking its pink fit to a whole new level.
We can reveal the V8s secured a multi-year deal with global pop queen Pink, who will become the rocking face of our fastest growing sport.
The fine details are under lock-and-key because an official announcement is not due until next month.
But take it as read that there’s every possibility Pink will be headlining the list of performers at December’s Sydney 500.
A source from Sydney Olympic Park Authority (SOPA) spotted promotional material featuring the feisty US songstress, and passed the tip on to us yesterday.
We immediately contacted V8 head office on the Gold Coast for more info, but neither chairman Tony Cochrane nor his spokesman could be tracked down for comment prior to deadline.
But it’s understood V8s officials are currently in negotiations with a host of international and local acts to perform at ANZ Stadium during the three-day season finale, which runs from December 3-5.
A decision is yet to be made on whether to again stage the post-race concerts on Friday-Saturday or flip one to the Sunday night. Last year’s inaugural format was a smash hit, attracting more than 180,000 fans, and prime viewing accommodation inside the Homebush Bay precinct is already sold out.
But there were teething problems. Officials are currently looking at building covers over the grandstands and more pedestrian overpasses to avoid heat exposure and bottlenecks respectively.
