“Fair dinkum”, Pink calls Australia home, shows off Australian accent in Sydney
The Funhouse tour _ which winds up in Sydney next Saturday _ has played before 660,000 people at 58 shows in four months, not only breaking box office records but selling millions of albums.
Clearly moved by the way she’s been embraced in Australia, the star _ whose real name is Alecia Moore _ said last night: “I know it’s cheesy to say but it feels like home.
“Having an old-school relationship with people who actually like music is really fun and it’s been awhile. You make it really cool. And I hope it’s not a fluke because I like it here.”
At a cocktail party in her honour at the Quay Restaurant, Pink was presented with a commissioned painting that not only featured her but her motocross champion husband Carey Hart, her beloved dogs and various images from her acclaimed show.
Mingling with the media, friends and record company supporters, she showed off her excellent Australian accent with exclamations of “beautiful” and “fair dinkum”.
The statistics of her success are truly awe-inspiring. In the past two years, she has sold 4.8 million records and singles, smash hit So What has spent a year in the charts, all five Pink albums have been in the top 30 at the same time and the Funhouse record has never left the top 10 in 42 weeks, notching nine weeks at No.1, which is a record for any female artist on the Australian charts.
Her Australian promoter Michael Coppel paid tribute to her hard work and professionalism, joking that Pink is so adored in Australia “we have booked all of 2012 for the next tour”.
Australia is without a doubt Pink’s most successful and supportive fan-base in the world, having backed her more than a decade ago on her debut album Can’t Take Me Home.
