Much like Katy Perry’s “Firework” or even (to some extent) Ke$ha’s “We R Who We R,” Pink’s brand-new “F****** Perfect” video is an outreach to the outcasts, an extended hand to those on the fringes of society, one that comes with an empowering — and all-too-often unheard — message of hope. But unlike either Perry or Ke$ha’s glossy clips, Pink isn’t afraid to get gritty. Or graphic. And therein lies its power.
In “Perfect,” we follow the cycle of abuse that envelops a young girl (played by Tina Majorino) starting at an early age (she is bullied on a playground and acts out), then continues on through adolescence (her mother forces her to conform) and, of course, into high school, where the taunts get crueler and the emotions more palpable. This story is, sadly, nothing new, but it’s where Pink and director David Meyers (who also did Perry’s “Firework” vid) take it next that elevates the video to the next level.
Overcome by feelings that are beyond her control (sadness, anger, loneliness), we see Majorino’s character grab a razor blade and savagely — and gruesomely — begin cutting herself. As the blood begins to flow, it becomes apparent that she’s carving the word “Perfect” into her flesh, and then, with the song hushing to a near whisper, it appears she has died. It’s a tough scene to watch, one that Pink herself addressed on her website, writing that she hoped its inclusion would shine a light on the issues of cutting and teen suicide and let anyone who may be considering either know that “I’m aware. I have been there.”
Thankfully, Majorino’s character doesn’t die, but her experience does inspire her to re-evaluate things and realize that, no matter what anyone might say, she is special, unique and, most of all, deserving of love. And that’s when her life begins to change. She becomes a painter, she finds a supportive boyfriend, and she has a daughter of her own, and by doing all that, she has effectively broken the cycle of abuse. She is free, for the first time, to live her life.
It may be a simplistic message, but it’s an incredibly important one too. No matter how dark things get, they can — and will — get better. It may not happen all at once, but it will happen. And Pink is living proof of that. Kudos to her for not only making a video like “F****** Perfect,” but for having the guts to take it to places her contemporaries don’t dare tread.

The Grammy winner defends her music video for ‘F**kin’ Perfect’ hours before its MTV premiere.
Choosing to title her new single “F**kin’ Perfect” and then open its video with graphic depictions of sex and bloody scenarios of cutting and suicide, Pink knew her latest projects would ignite controversy. And that’s just the way she wants it, because in this particular case, the 31-year-old singer’s in-your-face approach is to ensure the message in the music isn’t lost or ignored.
“Cutting, and suicide, two very different symptoms of the same problem, are gaining on us,” Pink blogged on Thursday afternoon, hours before the video is to make its MTV premiere. ”…A lot of us have seen certain starlets showing off their latest scars on a red carpet somewhere, usually right before they head back to their favorite rehab. … It’s a problem, and its something we should talk about.”
The multiple-Grammy-winning singer-songwriter took to her personal blog to curtail any misundertstandings that may “ruffle some feathers,” and to explain her vision for the artful and undeniably intense music video, emphasizing, “You can’t move mountains by whispering at them.”
“We can choose to ignore the problem, and therefore ignore this video, but that won’t make it go away,” she wrote. “…I don’t support or encourage suicide or cutting. I support the kids out there that feel so desperate/numb/powerless, that feel unseen and unheard, and can’t see another way … I want them to know I’m aware. I have been there. I see them. Sometimes that’s all it takes.”
Pink, who is expecting a baby later this year with her husband Carey Hart, concludes her “very emotional” blog entry with a side note as to the inspiration for creating the song and video for “F**kin’ Perfect”: “I have a life inside of me, and I want her or him to know that I will accept him or her with open and loving and welcoming arms. And though I will prepare this little munchkin for a sometimes cruel world, I will also equip this kid to see all the beauty in it as well. … There are those that accept us with all of our flaws. I do that with my fans/friends, and I will do that with my child, whoever they decide to be.”

POP star P!NK’s latest video features graphic scenes of an anorexic-looking model slashing herself with razor blades.
The controversial promo to her forthcoming single sees a young woman carve the word ‘perfect’ into her forearm while in the bath.
Blood gushes from the self-inflicted wounds in the startling three-minute clip to song F*****’ Perfect.
However, the pregnant singer stresses that she does not seek to glamourise self-harm.
She explained: “Cutting and suicide, two very different symptoms of the same problem, are gaining on us. (The problem being; alienation and depression. The symptoms; cutting and suicide).
“I personally don’t know a single person who doesn’t know at least two of these victims personally. A lot of us have seen certain starlets showing off their latest scars on a red carpet somewhere, usually right before they head back to their favorite rehab.
“It’s a problem, and its something we should talk about.
“We can choose to ignore the problem, and therefore ignore this video, but that won’t make it go away.

When Pink released her career retrospective, Greatest Hits…So Far!!!, she was nice enough to include two new singles on the collection: “Raise Your Glass” and “F****** Perfect.” And, in many ways, these tracks are two sides of the same coin.
Both songs deal with overcoming obstacles, believing in yourself and persevering in the face of great odds. But while “Raise Your Glass” was a storming rah-rah anthem about “little freaks,” “F****** Perfect” is a more somber, dire affair, although ultimately a triumphant one.
To go with the Max Martin- and Shellback-produced track, Pink, along with director Dave Meyers has created a harrowing video. In the “F****** Perfect” video, we see a character throughout various stages in her life as she deals with issues ranging from bullying, problems at school and at home. Played wonderfully as an adult by Tina Majorino (of “Napoleon Dynamite” and “Veronica Mars” fame), things come to a head when this character nearly takes her own life, graphically cutting herself and bleeding into a bathtub.
Due to the particularly sensitive nature of the scene, Pink has offered up the statement below to give context to the events depicted:
Despite the disturbing content, rest assured, this story has a happy ending.

I’m sure my newest video for “F**kin’ Perfect” will be much like some of my other videos, which basically means I expect it will ruffle some feathers.
My favorite books, art pieces, films, and music, always have something jarring about them. I want art to make me think.
In order to do that, it may piss me off, or make me uncomfortable. That promotes awareness and change, or at least some discussion.
That is my intention.
You can’t move mountains by whispering at them.
Cutting, and suicide, two very different symptoms of the same problem, are gaining on us. (the problem being; alienation and depression. the symptoms; cutting and suicide). I personally don’t know a single person who doesn’t know at least two of these victims personally. A lot of us have seen certain starlets showing off their latest scars on a red carpet somewhere, usually right before they head back to their favorite rehab.
Its a problem, and its something we should talk about.
We can choose to ignore the problem, and therefore ignore this video, but that won’t make it go away. I don’t support or encourage suicide or cutting.
I support the kids out there that feel so desperate/numb/powerless, that feel unseen and unheard, and can’t see another way.. I want them to know I’m aware. I have been there. I see them.
Sometimes that’s all it takes.
Making this video was a very emotional experience for me, as was writing this song. I have a life inside of me, and I want her or him to know that I will accept him or her with open and loving and welcoming arms. And though I will prepare this little munchkin for a sometimes cruel world, I will also equip this kid to see all the beauty in it as well. There are good people in this world that are open-minded, and loving. There are those that accept us with all of our flaws. I do that with my fans/friends, and I will do that with my child, whoever they decide to be.

AUSTRALIA’S adopted daughter, P!nk, has joined fellow celebrities in sending her support to Queensland flood victims.
Yesterday morning, the Raise Your Glass hitmaker sent a message on social networking site Twitter to encourage people to make a donation.
Later she sent a personal message to the flood victims. “My heart and prayers go out to all my Aussies. I’m praying for your safety and health and hearts,” she said on the site to her more-than two million followers.
P!nk, real name Alecia Moore, donated $250,000 to the 2009 Victorian Bushfire Appeal.
More and more celebrities are using Twitter to send messages of support and to urge their fans to donate including Katy Perry, Danny DeVito, Kylie Minogue, Nicky Hilton, Tom Cruise, Audrina Patridge, Jill Zarin and Real Housewives of New York’s Alex McCord’s husband Simon van Kempen, who is originally from Brisbane.
Fans of Oprah Winfrey have been expressing their outrage on Twitter that the media maven has failed to acknowledge the floods after she visited Queensland last month.
A spokesperson from her production company Harpo confirmed the floods will be acknowledged in her upcoming Australian specials due to air in the US next week.
Meanwhile Magic Millions organisers on the Gold Coast have committed $250,000 to the flood appeal.
