Who knows how to rock? The Ladies, that’s who! Underscored by hard rocking base lines and ripping guitar solos, these are the ten best female rock singers that have ever rocked a stage.

1. Tina Turner. Rising to fame with Ike Turner, Tina, in true rock chick fashion exploded into superstardom after she stepped out on her own.  Turner’s longevity and distinctive vocal quality keep her one of the best female rock singers.
2. Joan Jett. As a drummer, guitarist, vocalist, producer, actress and songwriter, Joan Jett is a complete artist. It is as a singer, however, that Jett is best known.  Thrashing on the guitar and hard-edged vocals put Jett in the highest echelon of classic rock stars.
3. Ann Wilson. As one half of the band “Heart,” Ann Wilson voiced some of the greatest rock anthems of the 1970s and 80s.  Wilson’s commanding voice is still synonymous with the term “power ballad,” easily making her one of the best female rock singers.
4. Janis Joplin. One of the most celebrated and enduring female rock singers of all time, Janis Joplin’s gravel-like voice gave spirit and edge to some of the greatest tunes in music history.  With a style as unique as her voice, Joplin will always be one of our best female rock vocalists.
5. Stevie Nicks. Fronting the rock band and historical rock gem, Fleetwood Mac, Nicks shot to fame with her distinctive style, rock and roll lifestyle and off stage drama. On stage, however, Nicks proves with her edgy vocal quality time and again why she is one of the best female rock singers rocking today.
6. Pink. One of the more contemporary rock artists on our list, Pink has established herself in the highest echelon of best female rock singers with her hard-edged style and raw vocals. Unabashed about any topic, Pink delivers her empowered lyrics with a leather tongue and true rock grit.
7. Patti Smith. A true rock luminary, Patti Smith was one of the most influential voices in New York’s punk rock movement in the mid-70s. Her unique and enigmatic music and vocal performance makes her undoubtedly one of the greatest and most important female rock artists of all time.
8. Jenny Lewis. Rocking and vulnerable are not words that go together often, but so it is with Jenny Lewis’ sometime lilting, always hard-rocking vocals. The front woman of indie rock band Rilo Kiley as well as a solo artist, Lewis’s unique blend of styles lands her as one of the best female rock singers.
9. K.D. Lang. Poetic and intense, Lang’s vocals can leave a feeling of pain and longing as quickly as they can explode with magnitude. To see signs of her greatness, look to 2007’s “Hymns of the 49th Parallel” where she doesn’t just cover the tunes of rock luminaries, she owns them.
10. Mary Lou Lord. Quiet and unassuming, Mary Lou Lord’s rock career began in the subways of Boston. After achieving success with an indie label, Lord continued to perform with the same rawness she had when singing underground. This tender vulnerability makes her one of the best female rock singers.
